Private Instruction

I love teaching, offering private instruction out of my home studio in Cartersville. As a result of the covid-19 pandemic I also began to explore the world of online lessons, and to my surprise found them to be a wonderful way to expand beyond the reach of the traditional session, and something that I continue to offer to pupils who may live anywhere with an internet connection. Working with students is incredibly rewarding. Watching an aspiring musician obtain a mastery of their instrument, cognizant of all the discipline, imaginative problem solving, and deep personal development it requires, is a source of constant inspiration for me. I take the responsibility of musical mentorship very seriously. Students can expect the following during lessons with me:

*Scale and arpeggio studies in all keys

*Etude work as they become advanced; Burgmüller, Moskowski, Chopin, Liszt, Debussy

*Level appropriate repertoire from all classical styles

*Focus on physical mechanics and how it influences technical competence and sound production

*Music theory comprehension based on the works currently under study

*A deep exploration of personal expression and understanding of style

*Regular performance and competition opportunities

Students choose how much they demand of themselves, but I generally ask for a commitment to a daily amount of practice time equal to at least the length of their weekly lesson. This is typically the minimum amount of time required to make consistent progress. While I aim to instill the highest of musical standards in my students, the atmosphere in my studio is always inviting, nurturing, warm and kind. Music is about the joy of self exploration and expression, and only by cultivating self reliance and confidence through encouragement and inspiration can we help them to achieve these lofty goals. Music expresses that which cannot be said and on which it is impossible to be silent.
